BUFFALO, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona baseball continued its recent hot streak on Friday afternoon, when it swept Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Medaille College at McCarthy Park.

The Lions (14-17, 9-7 AMCC) won game one 16-11 and claimed victory in game two by a score of 14-11. It was Penn State Altoona's third consecutive doubleheader sweep and fourth doubleheader sweep overall this season.

The Lions opened the day with 21 hits in game one, including eight doubles. That total of eight doubles ties for the most doubles in a game by a Penn State Altoona baseball team in program history.

Hunter Breon (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) had a big game at the plate and also picked up the win on the rubber. With the bat, Breon went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs batted in, three runs scored, and one walk. On the mound, he got the start and pitched five innings to record his third victory of the season. Sawyer Kline (Bellwood PA/Bellwood-Antis) pitched two scoreless innings in relief

Dylan Bates (Towanda, PA/Towanda) went 3-for-5 with his first home run of the season, four RBI, and two runs scored. Austin Anderson (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) was also 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Richard Carey (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) finished 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Sawyer Duffey (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI, and one run scored. Catcher Cumming (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Peter Jacobs (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) was 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run scored, and one stolen base.

Penn State Altoona opened the scoring in the top of the second with a pair of runs on Duffey's two RBI single. After Medaille (11-15, 4-10 AMCC) got one run back in the bottom of the second, the Lions scored four more in the top of the third on Chase Clouser's (Dublin, OH/Dublin Jerome) sacrifice fly, Breon's two-run double, and Bates' RBI base hit.

Ahead 6-3 in the fifth, Penn State Altoona got four more runs across. Duffey drove in two more runs with his double, and Jacobs and Anderson each contributed RBI singles to make it 10-3. In the top of the sixth, Bates' three-run homer and Jacobs' RBI single increased the Lions' lead to 14-3.

Medaille awoke for a big eight-run bottom of the sixth, cutting Penn State Altoona's lead to 14-11. But the Lions added two more runs in their lead in the seventh on a James Mays (Dyer, IN/Lake Central) RBI groundout and Breon's RBI double.

In game two, the Lions used the same formula – lots of offense – to post another win, finishing the game with 22 hits.

Clouser finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Jim Shomberg (Lansdale, PA/Methacton) went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored, while Carey was 3-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored, and a walk.

Chris Michaelis (Albany, NY/Albany) was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Breon went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. Anderson hit 2-for-6 with an RBI and a stolen base, and Bates was 2-for-6 with two runs scored.

George Stiuso (Milford, NJ/Gill St. Bernard's) pitched 6 2/3 innings to pick up his second win of the season for the Lions. Brandyn Schuchart (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) tossed 2/3 of an inning, and Aaron Sharp (Freeburg, PA/Midd-West) pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to pick up his first save of the season.

Penn State Altoona opened the game with a 10-0 lead after two innings and went on to hold a 14-0 advantage through six.

In the top of the first, Shomberg's RBI single got things started. RBI singles from Breon and Clouser followed, and Michaelis used a two-run single to make it 5-0. A Medaille error allowed Bates to score, and Jacobs' RBI double made it 7-0.

In the second, Shomberg led off the inning with a single and came around to score on an error. Breon and Clouser each added RBI singles later in the inning to make it 10-0.

The Lions got a run in the fourth on Carey's RBI single, and they added another in the fifth on Cumming's solo home run – his third long ball of the season – to increase Penn State Altoona's lead to 12-0. In the sixth, Anderson's RBI single and Shomberg's sac fly made it 14-0.

Medaille scored six in the seventh and five in the eighth, but the Mavericks' late comeback attempt was not enough to overtake the Lions' lead.
