GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona baseball team built an early 3-0 lead during Friday afternoon's game against non-conference opponent Thiel College, but the Tomcats scored seven runs over the game's final three innings to pull away, posting a 10-4 victory over the Lions at Tomcat Park.

The Lions (5-9) led 3-0 in the top of the third and 4-3 in the top of the sixth, but Thiel (4-4) took the lead in the bottom of the sixth by scoring two runs, then added five more to its total before the game's end.

Corey Chamberlain (Claysburg, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run batted in and one run scored. Grayson McClain (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, a walk, and a stolen base, and Jake Hillard (State College, PA/State College) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Tristin Lockett (Mifflin County, PA/Mifflin County) started on the mound and was saddled with his first loss of the season. In six innings of work, the right-hander allowed three earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two. Mack Meengs (State College, PA/State College) pitched the final two innings in relief.

Penn State Altoona scored a run in the top of the first inning to establish the lead. McClain led off with a single, stole second, and then scored on Chamberlain's RBI base hit to left-center.

In the second, Richard Carey's (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) two-out RBI double to left-center made it 2-0, and Hillard's two-out RBI single to left-center in the third extended the Lions' advantage to 3-0.

But Thiel put three runs on the board in the bottom of the third to tie the score, as Patrick Shirey's RBI single and Jamin Wentling's two-run double knotted things up 3-3.

Logan Margroum's (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) sacrifice fly to center put Penn State Altoona back in front, 4-3, in the top of the sixth.

But Thiel responded with two runs in the bottom half of the sixth to take their first lead of the day. Dan Lutz's fielder's choice grounder drove in the tying run, and Chase Morrison's sac fly gave the Tomcats a 5-4 advantage.

Thiel added another run to its lead in the seventh on a Nick Jacobs sac fly, and the home team went on to score four more runs during the eighth, including an Anthony Rago two-run homer, to make it 10-4.

Next, Penn State Altoona baseball is scheduled to have its home opener this Sunday, March 20, when the Lions will host non-conference opponent Chatham University for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. at Stewart Athletic Field.
