ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona baseball team hosted its final home doubleheader of the regular season on Friday afternoon at Stewart Athletic Field, splitting with Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford.

Penn State Altoona (15-19, 6-8 AMCC) won game one 10-9 on a walkoff, then dropped game two 5-3 to Pitt-Bradford (12-22, 5-11 AMCC).

Game One: Penn State Altoona 10, Pitt-Bradford 9

The Lions came out on top of a back-and-forth affair in game one, rallying for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to overcome a late deficit and win.

Logan Margroum (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) was 3-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored for Penn State Altoona. Timothy Richard (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored, Jake Hillard (State College, PA/State College) was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored, and Garrett Alauzen (Pittsburgh, PA/Chartiers Valley) finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Kyle Glass (Imler, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) tossed his seventh complete game of the season on the mound for the Lions to record his fifth win.

Pitt-Bradford jumped on the first pitch it saw in the top of the first inning, when Kevin Rehak led off with a home run to left to give the Panthers the early lead.

Penn State Altoona countered with four runs in the bottom half of the first to jump in front. Richard's two-run double to left put the Lions on top, and Margroum's RBI single through the left side added another run to his team's total. Corey Chamberlain (Claysburg, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) scored after the base hit, when Margroum got in a rundown between first and second that allowed Chamberlain to come home from third.

Pitt-Bradford responded with three runs in the top of the second to tie the score 4-4. RBI singles from Bret Babcock and Nico Hall made it a one-run game, and Hall scored on an outfield error to even the score at four runs apiece. The Panthers took a 5-4 advantage in the top of the third, when Tyler Aires' solo home run over the right field fence put the visitors ahead.

Penn State Altoona scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, when Chamberlain and Margroum each scored on Pitt-Bradford errors to put the home team back in front, 6-5.

Pitt-Bradford worked its way back in front in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs on a two-run single from Aires and an error that allowed Noah Meyers to score from third, making it 8-6.

The Lions cut their deficit to one in the bottom of the fourth, when Grayson McClain (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) singled to left-center and later scored from third on a balk.

Pitt-Bradford boosted its lead back to two runs in the top of the seventh, as an Evan Fragela RBI infield single put the Panthers up 9-7.

But Penn State Altoona got three runs across in the bottom of the seventh to secure a walkoff win. After Alauzen led off the frame by reaching on an error, Hillard blasted his seventh home run of the season to center to tie the game, 9-9. Richard followed with a base hit to put the tying run aboard, and after a flyout, Margroum singled into right field to put two runners on. During the play, a throwing error by the Pitt-Bradford right fielder let Richard score from third to propel Penn State Altoona to victory.

Game Two: Pitt-Bradford 5, Penn State Altoona 3

The Lions scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the team was otherwise unable to get any traction on offense.

Alauzen went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, and Phaly Moravek (Leesburg, VA/Tuscarora) also went 2-for-4. Richard Carey (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) hit his third home run of the season.

Tristin Lockett (Mifflin County, PA/Mifflin County) started on the mound and finished with a no decision after working 1 1/3 innings. Cole Brechbill (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) pitched 6 2/3 innings in relief, allowing three runs and striking out five, and he recorded the loss. Cameron Dubbs (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) tossed a scoreless ninth with one strikeout.

Pitt-Bradford scored two runs in the top of the second without the benefit of a hit, as Aires was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Justin Dattoli later scored on a wild pitch. The Panthers made it 3-0 in the third, when Fragela came home from third on a double play.

Penn State Altoona finally broke through to score in the bottom of the fifth, putting three runs on the board to tie the game. Hlivia led off with a double, and Tyreke Green (Altoona, PA/Altoona) followed with a single. McClain drove in Hlivia with a sacrifice fly to left, and Carey hit a two-run homer to even the score at 3-3.

But Pitt-Bradford reclaimed the lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run homer to right field by Meyers, and Penn State Altoona went on to suffer the game two loss.

Penn State Altoona baseball wraps up its regular season schedule on the road tomorrow, when the Lions travel to Buffalo to face AMCC opponent Medaille College for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
