Inclement Weather Halts Wednesday Baseball Games

ALTOONA, Pa. – A combination of rain, snow, wind, and lightning derailed the Penn State Altoona baseball team's home doubleheader with non-conference opponent Wilson College on Wednesday afternoon at Stewart Athletic Field.

Game one began on schedule and was played into the bottom of the third inning, as Penn State Altoona and Wilson battled to a 4-4 tie. However, with one out in the bottom of the third, play was halted due to heavy mixed precipitation. Shortly after, a lightning delay extended the break, and officials ultimately terminated play for the rest of the day.

Penn State Altoona and Wilson intend to reschedule the games and resume the doubleheader from the point of stoppage at a future, to-be-determined date.

Before inclement weather ended play, Penn State Altoona had overcome a 4-1 deficit to Wilson.

Corey Chamberlain (Claysburg, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) got the home team on the board with an RBI single lined to right in the bottom of the first, but Wilson answered with four runs in the top of the second inning.

Penn State Altoona got a run back in the bottom half of the second, courtesy of Grayson McClain's (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) run-scoring base hit on a grounder into right field. Zach Ingold's (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) two-run double deep down the left-field line tied the score 4-4 in the bottom of the third. But with runners at the corners and one out, play was halted due to weather and eventually ended for the day.

Penn State Altoona baseball's next action is Monday, March 25, when the Lions will travel east to face non-conference opponent Messiah University in a single, nine-inning contest starting at 3:30 p.m.
