This Saturday: Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day, SAAC for Socks

The Penn State Altoona basketball teams host a doubleheader against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend this Saturday, January 26 in the Adler Arena. The women's game tips off at 2:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4:00 p.m.

At the doubleheader, Penn State Altoona Athletics be promoting a pair of charity efforts, and we hope you get involved.

Firstly, it will be Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day, and our men's and women's basketball teams will be recognizing Go4TheGoal, a foundation that helps kids with cancer in a variety of ways. For more information on Go4TheGoal, visit their website at www.go4thegoal.org. Additionally, we will be raising money for the family of Timmy Ward, a junior in high school from Canton, Pa. who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in November. Any donation, large or small, will help this cause.

Secondly, our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be holding a collection to support the AMCC's SAAC for Socks drive. All fans are encouraged to bring new socks, hats, and/or gloves, which will be donated to a local shelter to benefit the homeless during the cold winter months in the Altoona area. Fans who bring an item to donate to SAAC for Socks will receive free admission to the games.

(If you're unable to attend Saturday's games, but would still like to donate, collection bins will be placed in various buildings around campus, and you may also bring your donated items to the Athletics offices on the second floor of Adler.)

Cheer on the Lady Lions and Lions this Saturday, while helping to show your support to two worthy causes!
