Men's Golf Starts Season With Fourth Place Finish at Bradford Invite

BRADFORD, Pa. - Penn State Altoona men's golf started its 2017 schedule on Saturday afternoon in the Pitt-Bradford Invitational at Pine Acres Country Club, and the Lions played to a fourth place finish out of 16 teams in the event.

Penn State Altoona posted a combined team score of 324. Penn State Behrend won the invitational with 312, while Grove City College and La Roche College tied for second with 321.

The Lions finished ahead of fellow Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schools Pitt-Bradford (5th - 325), Pitt-Greensburg (7th - 331), Medaille College (8th - 332), Mount Aloysius College (12th - 356), Hilbert College (13th - 363), and D'Youville College (16th - 431).

Luke Hoffnagle (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) shot 78 on the par 72 course to lead Penn State Altoona and tie for ninth place individually out of 93 golfers.

Jacob Mrvos (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Hunter Duriez (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) each carded an 81 to tie for 15th place individually. Pongthong Thongyai (Patum Thani, Thailand/New Mexico Military Institute) shot an 84, and Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) rounded out the Lions' five with an 89.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's golf will compete in the two-day Guy W. Kuhn Memorial Invitational, which is hosted by Allegheny College on Sunday, September 10 and Monday, September 11 at Meadville Country Club.
