ALLISON PARK, Pa. - Penn State Altoona men's golf continued its busy schedule of competitions on Tuesday afternoon when it took part in the La Roche College Invitational at Wildwood Golf Club.

The Lions came in fifth place out of 10 teams, compiling a score of 326. Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foes Penn State Behrend and La Roche finished in first and second place with scores of 306 and 312, respectively. A pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference squads finished in third and fourth, as Westminster College ended the day with a score of 319 and Grove City College tallied 320.

Penn State Altoona finished ahead of AMCC opponents Medaille College (6th Place - 330), Pitt-Greensburg (7th Place - 331), Pitt-Bradford (8th Place - 334), and Mount Aloysius College (10th Place - 386).

For the Lions, Tuesday's round in the La Roche Invitational represented the third event in the span of four days.

"Our scores weren't competitive today, but they were still manageable," said Penn State Altoona head golf coach Tom Koehle. "I think the three events in four days took a toll mentally on our players. We made some errors that were indicative of tiredness."

Payton Guelich (Sandy Ridge, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) had the top score on the day for Penn State Altoona, shooting 79 to tie for ninth place out of 61 individual men's golfers.

Luke Hoffnagle (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) and Mateo Scott (Lima, Peru/Highlands International School) each carded 82, tying for 24th place overall. Following close behind were Hunter Duriez (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) and Pongthong Thongyai (Patum Thani, Thailand/New Mexico Military Institute), who each shot 83 to tie for 28th place.

"I'm really happy with Payton's consistency the last few days. To come out and shoot three rounds in the 70s in his first three collegiate matches is a great sign of his potential," said Koehle. "We will now rest up and be prepared for Westminster next Monday."

The Lions head to New Castle Country Club on Monday, September 25 to compete in the Westminster College Invitational.
