ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. - Penn State Altoona men's golf played its final regular season event of its schedule on Wednesday afternoon, when it placed sixth out of 12 teams in the Gettysburg College Invitational at Hanover Country Club.

The Lions finished eight shots out of first place, shooting 328 as a team to come in sixth. Dickinson College and Messiah College tied for first, as both schools scored 319. McDaniel College was third place with 320.

Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) led Penn State Altoona by shooting a 79 on the par 71 course, tying for 11th place out of 60 individual golfers.

"Jimmy got off to a tough start, going 5-over his first three holes. To come back and post a solid score speaks volumes for his progress and potential," said Penn State Altoona head golf coach Tom Koehle. "Individually, we have had many bright sports this year. If we can put two good days together at the AMCC Championships, I like our chances against anybody."

Luke Hoffnagle (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) shot 81 to tie for 15th place, and Hunter Duriez (Northern Cambria, PA/Northern Cambria) carded an 83 to tie for 21st. Pongthong Thongyai (Patum Thani, Thailand/New Mexico Military Institute) earned an 85 to tie for 28th, and Payton Guelich (Sandy Ridge, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) rounded out the squad with an 87 to tie for 36th.

Next, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team will embark on its quest for a sixth conference title when the Lions compete in the two-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club in Warren, Ohio. The championships begin with round one on Sunday, October 8 and finish with round two on Monday, October 9.
