Men’s Golf Places Ninth at Gettysburg Spring Invitational

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's golf opened its 2018 spring season on Tuesday in the Gettysburg College Spring Invitational at Hanover Country Club, and the Lions finished the day in ninth place out of 15 teams.

Penn State Altoona recorded a team score of 342 to come in ninth. Host school Gettysburg won the event with a score of 311. Lebanon Valley College and McDaniel College tied for second with 315, while Dickinson College and Stevenson University followed by tying for fourth place with 321.

Luke Hoffnagle (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) led the Lions by shooting an 81 on the par 71 course, tying for 20th place out of 79 golfers. Payton Guelich (Sandy Ridge, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) carded an 85 to tie for 39th place.

Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) shot an 87, Carter Fischer (Bellefonte, PA/Philpsburg-Osceola) finished with an 89, and Jacob Mrvos (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) scored a 96 to round out Penn State Altoona's five. Ely Roselius (Moon Township, PA/Moon) competed as an individual and shot 90.

Penn State Altoona men's golf wraps up its brief spring season with one more competition, as the Lions will head to Piney Branch Golf Club in Upperco, Md. on Monday, April 23 to take part in the Stevenson University Spring Invitational. Teams are expected to begin teeing off at approximately 12:00 p.m. that day.
