2019 Community for Kids Golf Tournament

2019 Community for Kids Golf Tournament

The Penn State Altoona Alumni Society will host its fifth annual Community for Kids Golf Tournament, presented by PSECU on Friday, June 28, 2019, at Sinking Valley Country Club. The Tournament benefits the Blair County Center for Child Justice, Penn State Altoona Alumni Scholarship programs, and Penn State Altoona Athletics. To date, the event has raised over $62,000 for its three beneficiaries.

The festivities kick off on Thursday, June 27 at the Blairmont Club in Hollidaysburg with the Tee It Up Reception, featuring appearances by several Penn State celebrities, tournament participants, alumni, and friends. Members of the Obligatory Penn State Podcast will be taping a session from the reception.  The Podcast team consists of Penn State icon Mike "the Mailman" Herr;  Brandon Noble, former standout defensive tackle for Penn State, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Washington Redskins; Chris Buchignani, the founding president of The Nittany Valley Society; and Kevin Horne, holder of three Penn State degrees and former managing editor of Onward State. Also appearing will be former Penn State defensive end Justin Kurpeikis, WTAJ sportscasters Rosie Langello and Jack Wascher, and members of the Penn State Altoona Athletics staff. More guests will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets to the Tee It Up Reception are included with all sponsorships and golfer entry fees. Additional tickets can be purchased for $40.

Both a morning and afternoon session will be offered for the Community for Kids Golf Tournament. The day starts with continental breakfast and an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start. Lunch will be provided for both morning and afternoon sessions, with the afternoon session getting underway at 1:30 p.m. All golfers will receive 18 holes of golf with cart, two meals, and a prize package, along with additional on-course prizes and promotions. New for 2019 is the addition of World Long Drive Professional Kyle Blakely, who will be teeing off for groups on the par 5, 11th hole at Sinking Valley. For a minimum donation, golfers can enter a chance to hole out from Blakely's tee ball and win an all-expense paid trip to Pebble Beach.

"Our Alumni Society is so proud of the growth and success of the Community for Kids Golf Tournament.  We are honored to support three worthy beneficiaries, especially the Center for Child Justice, and thankful for the support of our presenting sponsor, PSECU. The relationship with PSECU and the Penn State Alumni Association is in its infancy and will be very positive for this tournament and all Penn State Alumni into the future," said Tom Koehle, tournament chairperson.
