MEADVILLE, Pa. – After the second and final day of the Allegheny College Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational on Monday, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team placed seventh out of 12 squads.

The Lions shot 320 as a team in Monday's round, a four-stroke improvement from Sunday's score. With a two-day score of 644, Penn State Altoona settled into seventh place, ranking ahead of Westminster College (645), the College of Wooster (654), Thiel College (661), Point Park University (706), and Hiram College (802).

Host school Allegheny won the Kuhn Invitational with a two-day score of 599. Carnegie Mellon University was second (605), McDaniel College came in third (611), and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference school Penn State Behrend was fourth (624).

Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) led the way for Penn State Altoona, shooting 1-under par in Monday's round to finish the day with 71. Overall, he tied for sixth place individually out 69 golfers with a two-day score of 151.

Gillespie's 1-under score today is the first for the Penn State Altoona men's golf program since September 20, 2007, when former Lion Sean Jackson shot 1-under in the Penn State Behrend Invitational.

"Jimmy played a very steady round of golf," said Penn State Altoona head coach Tom Koehle. "He hit quality shots and made some great par putts to keep momentum going. He hit it to eight feet on 18, and knocked it dead center to shoot under par."

Ethan Yohe (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) shot 82 on Monday to finish with a combined score of 160, placing him in a tie for 25th place individually. Luke Hoffnagle (York, PA/Spring Grove) improved by four strokes from his score in Sunday's round, carding an 81 to finish with a combined score of 166 that put him in a tie for 44th place.

"Luke is trending in the right direction," said Koehle. "He made eight consecutive pars in the middle of his round today."

Jacob Mrvos (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) shot 89 on Monday to finish with a two-day score of 170, and Cole Mori (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis Area Christian School) improved by three shots, posting an 86 on Monday to compile a combined score of 175.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's golf will travel to compete in the Grove City College Fall Invitational this Thursday, September 12 at 1:00 p.m.

"We are taking the whole squad to Grove City on Thursday, and I'm excited to see our squad compete," said Koehle. "We have identified some areas for improvement, and we look forward to getting better as the season goes on."
