ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – After the first round of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic on Saturday at The Bridges Golf Club, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team found itself in 12th place out of 18 teams with a score of 315.

McDaniel College, the host of the two-day event, was in first place with 296. York College held down second place with a score of 297, and Kenyon College and Gettysburg College were in a tie for third with 302.

Ethan Yohe (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) carded a season-low 75 to lead the Lions and tie for 12th place out of 96 individuals.

"Ethan continues to excel," said Penn State Altoona head coach Tom Koehle. "He lipped out for eagle on 18 and tapped in for birdie for a really solid round."

Luke Hoffnagle (York, PA/Spring Grove) shot 77 to tie for 33rd place, and Ryan Marshall (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) earned an 80 to tie for 58th place.

"Luke overcame a slow start to shoot a really nice round. He birdied 17 to post a nice number," said Koehle. "I continue to be pleased with Ryan's progress as a freshman. He is becoming more comfortable with the college game."

Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) and Jacob Mrvos (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) completed the Lions' lineup by each shooting 83.

Penn State Altoona resumes play in the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic tomorrow, Sunday, September 29.

"Our goal is to improve our team score tomorrow and climb the rankings against this really quality field," Koehle stated.
