Lions Golf Finishes 12th at Mason-Dixon Classic

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's golf shot 319 in day two of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic on Sunday at The Bridges Golf Club, placing 12th out of 18 teams at the conclusion of the two-round event.

The Lions' two-day combined score of 634 placed them ahead of Saint John Fisher College (13th place, 635), Catholic University (14th place, 636), Muhlenberg College (15th place, 642), Susquehanna University (16th place, 649), Alvernia University (17th place, 662), and New Jersey City University (18th place, 717).

McDaniel College, which hosted the Mason-Dixon Classic, took first place overall with a two-day score of 593, shooting 296 in day one and 297 in day two. York College was the runner-up with a combined score of 604, and Goucher College came in third with 607.

Luke Hoffnagle (York, PA/Spring Grove) led Penn State Altoona in Sunday's round by firing a season-low 75, his lowest score since his freshman season in 2017. With a two-day score of 152, Hoffnagle tied for 18th place out of 96 individual golfers.

Ethan Yohe (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) also tied for 18th place individually, shooting 77 on Sunday to card 152 after two rounds in the weekend event.

Ryan Marshall (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) shot 84 on Sunday to finish with a combined score of 164, Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) duplicated his first-round score by finishing with another 83 on Sunday for a total score of 166, and Jacob Mrvos (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) shot 84 on Sunday to compile a two-day score of 167.

Penn State Altoona men's golf will turn the calendar page to October for its next event, as the Lions will hit the road to compete in the James M. Bowen Invitational, hosted by Penn State Behrend on Monday, October 7 at Lawrence Park Golf Club. Tee times are set for 12:00 p.m.
