WARREN, Ohio – Penn State Altoona men's golf shot 319 during the second and final day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Monday at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club, placing second out of nine teams with a two-day score of 648.

The Lions' second place rank is their highest finish at the conference championships since 2015, when the team also came in second. Penn State Altoona's score of 319 on Monday was tied for its third-lowest of the season, and it represented a 10-stroke improvement from Sunday's round. It was also the lowest score by any team in either day of the championships.

"We shot the low round of the tournament and jumped into second," said Penn State Altoona head coach Tom Koehle. "While not the result we sought, this sets us up for future success and puts our program back near the top of the AMCC, which is the standard we hold ourselves to."

Pitt-Bradford won the AMCC crown by shooting 321 on Monday to finish with a combined score of 641.

"Bradford is a senior-laden team, and we gave them a scare today," Koehle said. "We closed the gap quickly, and they responded when they had to. That's the mark of a championship team."

Penn State Altoona finished ahead of Penn State Behrend (third place, 651), La Roche University (fourth place, 690), Medaille College (fifth place, 702), Mount Aloysius College (sixth place, 717), Hilbert College (seventh place, 733), D'Youville College (eighth place, 758), and Pitt-Greensburg (ninth place, 786).

"I'm very proud of the team today," said Koehle. "I could tell after a disappointing day yesterday that they took a hard look at themselves and came out today with a sharp focus."

Ethan Yohe (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) repeated his score from Sunday, shooting 78 on Monday to finish with a two-day score of 156. That score made him the AMCC individual runner-up, placing second out of 45 golfers. For his performance, Yohe was selected to the AMCC's All-Tournament team.

"Ethan's performance was one of the best for one of our players at the AMCC Championships since the move to Avalon Lakes," Koehle stated. "His game was really sharp, tee to green, and he bounced back after his mistakes. This will be a building block for him moving forward."

Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) shaved eight strokes off of his Sunday score, firing 77 on Monday to record a combined score of 162 that put him into a tie for sixth place individually.

Ryan Marshall (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) shot 85 to compile a two-day score of 166, placing him 11th individually. Jacob Mrvos (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) improved by three shots from Sunday's round, carding an 82 on Monday to finish in a tie for 12th place with 167. Luke Hoffnagle (York, PA/Spring Grove) had a five-shot improvement from his score yesterday, shooting 82 to record a combined score of 169 to tie for 17th place.

"I can't say enough about our grit and effort," Koehle said. "I'm really proud of this group."
