Golf Holds Eighth After First Day at Hershey Cup

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team ended Sunday's round in eighth place out of 16 teams, as the Lions competed in the first day of The Hershey Cup, hosted by the University of Rochester at Hershey Country Club's East Course.

The Lions shot 313 as a team on the par 71 course to rank eighth in the pack of 16 teams by the conclusion of day one.

Wittenberg University was in first place with a team score of 301, while McDaniel College and New York University were in a tie for second with 302.

Penn State Altoona's Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) had the second-lowest score of any golfer on the day, as he shot 1-over par, 72, to rank second out of 87 individuals. Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) finished 4-over par, firing a 75 to finish the day in a tie for 10th place individually, and Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) ended the day in a tie for 25th place, carding 77.

Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) and Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) rounded out the Lions' five, as Ankeny shot 89 and Bruce scored 90.

Penn State Altoona men's golf resumes play in The Hershey Cup tomorrow, Monday, April 8, for the second and final day of the tournament. Monday's round is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 a.m.
