Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Hershey Cup

HERSHEY, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team finished in seventh place out of 16 teams at The Hershey Cup, as the second and final day of the event, hosted by the University of Rochester, concluded on Monday at Hershey Country Club's East Course.

Penn State Altoona shaved 10 strokes off its first-round performance, scoring 303 as a team in Monday's round to compile a two-day score of 616 to rank seventh on the team leaderboard.

Wittenberg University won the tournament with 599, host Rochester was the runner-up with 602, and Franklin & Marshall College placed third with 605.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) was Penn State Altoona's top finisher. He shot 76 in Monday's round on the par 71 course, recording a two-day score of 148 to tie for sixth place out of 87 individuals. Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) tied for 12th place, totaling 150 in two rounds after shooting a 4-over par, 75, on Monday.

Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) tied for 33rd place, after he carded 78 on Monday to finish with a two-day score of 155. Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) had Penn State Altoona's low score of the round on Monday, firing 3-over par, 74, to finish with a two-day score of 163, tying for 57th place.

Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) shot 80 on Monday, scoring 170 across Sunday and Monday's rounds.

The men's golf team returns to varsity action on Friday, April 12, when the Lions will host the Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational at Sinking Valley Country Club. The day's round is expected to tee off at 1 p.m.

In the meantime, the Lions' junior-varsity squad will travel to Grove City Country Club on Thursday, April 11, to compete in the Grove City MBA Invitational at 1 p.m.
