Men’s Golf Tied for Third in Day One at Win Palmer Cup

SEWICKLEY, Pa. – On Monday, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team competed in day one of this week's Win Palmer Cup, hosted by Wittenberg University at Allegheny Country Club.

The Lions shot 298 as a team to finish the round in a tie for third place out of six squads, matching Washington & Jefferson College's team score of 298.

Host Wittenberg was atop the pack after Monday's round, totaling 279. Westminster College was second with 293, Wittenberg's 'B' team was fifth with 303, and Allegheny College rounded out the field in sixth with 305.

The format for the Win Palmer Cup has each participating team play six golfers, with the top four scores counted.

Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) was Penn State Altoona's top golfer on the day, shooting 2-over on the par 70 course to finish the round in a tie for third place out of 36 individuals. Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) ended the round in a tie for 14th place after he fired a 4-over 74, and Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) carded 75, with his 5-over score putting him in a tie for 16th place.

Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) finished Monday's round in 20th place after shooting 77, Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) was tied for 26th place with 79, and Stephen Phillips (Gambrills, MD/DeMatha Catholic) ranked 31st with a score of 80.

Penn State Altoona men's golf plays in the second and final day of the Win Palmer Cup tomorrow, Tuesday, April 16. The Lions' first tee time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
