Men’s Golf Begins Emory Invitational

CONYERS, Ga. – The Penn State Altoona men's golf team started its final regular-season tournament on Saturday, when the Lions competed in day one of this weekend's Emory University Spring Invitational at Cherokee Run Golf Club.

The event saw a field of 11 teams compete in two rounds on Saturday, with each team fielding a six-player lineup and counting the top four scores.

Penn State Altoona shot 322 in the first round, then totaled 325 in the second round to finish the day with a combined score of 647. By the conclusion of Saturday's action, the Lions ranked 11th out of 11 squads on the team leaderboard.

Host Emory posted a two-round score of 596 to finish the day in first place. Washington & Lee University scored 600 to sit in second place, and Averett University held third place with 613.

Peter Nusbaum (Pittsboro, NC/Thales Academy) was Penn State Altoona's top finisher on the day. On the par 72 course, Nusbaum shot 83 in the first round, then improved to 76 in round two, compiling a total score of 159 to tie for 37th place out of 67 individuals.

Jack DiTrani (Hinsdale, IL/Benet Academy) was in a tie for 47th place by the day's end, shooting 78 and 84 to finish with a total score of 162. Jack Ankeny (Davidsville, PA/Conemaugh Township) totaled 165 across two rounds, carding an 81 and an 84 to tie for 54th place. Sean McCullough (Kittanning, PA/West Shamokin) was in 59th place by Saturday's conclusion, shooting 85 in round one and 81 in round two to compile a total score of 166.

Andrew Bruce (Moon Township, PA/Moon) shot 82 and 87, scoring 169 to tie for 61st place. Trey Heffelfinger (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) scored 81 and 89, totaling 170 to tie for 64th.

Penn State Altoona men's golf wraps up the invitational tomorrow, Sunday, April 21, for the second and final day of the event. The Lions' tee times are expected to start at approximately 9 a.m.
