Men's Soccer Suffers 5-1 Loss to Arcadia in Season Opener

 ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona men's soccer started its 2017 schedule on Friday evening at Spring Run Stadium, and the Lions were handed a 5-1 loss at the hands of non-conference opponent Arcadia University.

After a scoreless first half, Penn State Altoona (0-1) drew first blood at 46:15 when Seth Murrelle (Sayre, PA/Sayre) took a pass from Jordan Crist (Alum Bank, PA/Chestnut Ridge) and found the back of the net.

But Arcadia (1-0) answered just over five minutes later, when Bradley McKim scored at 51:36 to tie the score 1-1.

The Knights jumped ahead at 54:27 when Ryan Hammer beat the goalkeeper on a shot from 15 yards. Just over six minutes later, Sam Hernandez made it 3-1 on a shot from 12 yards out.

Shade Foreman increased Arcadia's lead at 63:08 when he took a well-placed through ball from Georges Fioro, maneuvered past the goalkeeper, and scored to make it 4-1. Colin Lankau tacked on a goal at 87:32 to put the visitors ahead 5-1.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) finished the game with eight saves in net for Penn State Altoona.

Arcadia held a 21-10 lead in total shots, including a 13-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Knights also led 11-1 in corner kicks.

Lions soccer is back on the pitch tomorrow, Saturday, September 2 when they host non-conference opponent Waynesburg University at 1:00 p.m.
