Waynesburg Slides Past Lions 1-0

ALTOONA, Pa. - In its second home game in as many days, the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team lost 1-0 to non-conference opponent Waynesburg University at Spring Run Stadium.

Waynesburg (1-0-1) used a first half goal by Thomas Drake to grab the lead, and the Yellow Jackets nursed their lead for the remainder of the game to escape with the victory.

The visitors found the back of the net at 31:59 to make it 1-0. Tyler Sisler dribbled around a defender on the end line and centered the ball in front of the net. The pass found Drake, who tapped it past the goalkeeper for the score.

Despite an improved defensive effort from Friday, Penn State Altoona (0-2) was unable to find its rhythm offensively. The Lions held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks, but they could not capitalize on the opportunities.

Waynesburg held a 17-14 advantage in total shots attempted, while the teams tied 8-8 in shots on goal.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made seven saves in goal for the Lions. Jacob Weaver (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) led all players with three shots on goal, and Deontae Mosley (Houston, TX/Hylton) had a team-high four total shots.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer is back in action on Wednesday, September 6 for its first road game of the year. The Lions will travel to face non-conference opponent Westminster College for a 5:00 p.m. game.
