Juniata Bests Lions 2-1

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College edged the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team in Thursday night's non-conference matchup, topping the Lions 2-1 at Gibbel Stadium.

Jimmy Natale (Harleysville, PA/La Salle College) scored his first collegiate goal for Penn State Altoona (2-8). Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made one save between the pipes for the Lions.

Juniata (1-5-3) drew first blood shortly before halftime, getting a goal from Matt Matylewicz at 38:02 to go up 1-0. The Eagles scored again before the intermission, as Wyatt Page's goal at 43:35 doubled his team's lead.

Penn State Altoona got on the board in the early stages of the second half when Jacob Weaver (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) set up Natale, who scored at 55:20 to cut the Eagles' lead to 2-1.

But the Lions were unable to come up with the game-tying goal, dropping the game by one score.

Penn State Altoona led Juniata 10-7 in shots and 4-3 in shots on goal. The Lions also had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Next up for the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team, the Lions venture back into Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play this Saturday, September 30 with a road game at Hilbert College at 1:00 p.m.
