Lions Blanked 4-0 at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Penn State Altoona men's soccer fell 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Franciscan University.

Franciscan (10-4-2, 5-2-1 AMCC) was powered by a hat trick from Leo Herrmann, the AMCC's leading goal scorer.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made 10 saves between the pipes for Penn State Altoona (3-12, 2-5 AMCC) in the loss.

Franciscan broke a scoreless tie at 24:20, when Herrmann's first goal put his team up 1-0. That score held up through halftime until Herrmann struck again at 59:03, scoring bottom left off of JP Bobak's corner kick.

Gustavo Gutierrez increased the Barons' lead to 3-0 at 77:20. Bobak passed the ball just past the goalkeeper, and Gutierrez finished to give the home team a three-goal lead. Herrmann clinched the hat trick at 86:59 to make it 4-0.

Franciscan held a 23-6 lead over Penn State Altoona in total shots attempted, including a 14-4 mark in shots on goal. The Barons also led 8-1 in corner kicks.

Lions soccer will look to get back on track this Saturday, October 21 in its final regular season home game. That day, the team hosts AMCC opponent D'Youville College at 1:00 p.m. Before the game, Penn State Altoona will hold a Senior Day ceremony for its two senior players, Seth Murrelle (Sayre, PA/Sayre) and Coltin Ebersole (Roaring Spring, PA/Northern Bedford).
