Men’s Soccer Downed 5-0 by Allegheny

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer suffered a 5-0 loss to non-conference opponent Allegheny College on Saturday evening at Spring Run Stadium.

Allegheny (1-1) got goals from five different players, including a one-goal, two-assist performance by Danny Reid.

Jordan Crist (Alum Bank, PA/Chestnut Ridge) led Penn State Altoona (0-2) with three shots, including two shots on goal. Dakota Casey (Norwalk, CT/Canterbury) and Connor Kiley (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) finished with two shots each, both putting one shot on goal.

Joe Koontz (Everett, PA/Everett) started in goal for the Lions and made eight saves while taking the loss.

After being thwarted on several scoring opportunities throughout the first half, Allegheny was able to find the back of the net at 41:27 when Nick Taliani took Eddie Opalko's centering pass, dribbled forward, and chipped a shot past the goalkeeper. The Gators doubled their lead shortly after halftime, when Reid's penalty kick goal at 47:24 made it 2-0.

Allegheny made it 3-0 at 52:08, when Reid's long ball was headed into the net by Liam McKersie. Reid also had a hand in his team's fourth goal, when his corner kick was headed into the net by Owen Harkins to make it 4-0 at the 58:49 mark. Jon Sion closed the scoring at 60:33, when he took Opalko's pass and dribbled into the box to score.

Allegheny held a 23-9 advantage over Penn State Altoona in total shots, including a 13-5 lead in shots on goal. The visitors also led 10-3 in corner kicks.

Lions soccer returns to action on Wednesday, September 5, when it hosts non-conference opponent Westminster College for an 8:15 p.m. game.
