Titans Overpower Lions 4-0

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer was unable to hold off non-conference opponent Westminster College on Wednesday night, as the Titans powered their way to a 4-0 win at Spring Run Stadium.

Westminster (3-0) got goals from four different players: Ahmed Cisse, Logan Mannheimer, Nick Iregui, and Peter Mattocks.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) started in goal for Penn State Altoona (0-3), making three saves. Joe Koontz (Everett, PA/Everett) played the second half and also made three saves.

Connor Kiley (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) had two shot attempts for the Lions, including one shot on goal. Jack Price (Unionville, PA/Unionville) also had a shot on goal for Penn State Altoona.

The Lions' defensive-minded game plan helped to contain Westminster's attack for stretches of the contest, as Penn State Altoona heightened its presence in its own zone to help stave off potential scoring opportunities.

But Westminster broke through for one goal midway through the first half, then scored another just before halftime.

Cisse put the Titans up 1-0 at 26:01, when he took Shane Fallen's long ball from the opposite side of the field and came in on goal to score. Mannheimer made it 2-0 at 43:45, taking a pass from Adam Saunders and placing a shot into the top right corner of the net from the top of the box.

Westminster proceeded to score two more goals in the second half. The Titans' first strike of the period came at 60:43, when Fallen led Iregui with a pass into the box, and Iregui capitalized with a goal. Mattocks put the visitors up 4-0 at 62:55, tapping Sam Accordino's long throw-in past the goalkeeper.

Westminster posted a 20-6 advantage over Penn State Altoona in shots, including leading 10-2 in shots on goal. The visitors also had a 9-2 lead in corner kicks.

Next, after a week off, Penn State Altoona men's soccer will embark on its first road game of the season, as the Lions will travel to face non-conference opponent Frostburg State University on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m.
