FROSTBURG, Md. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer hit the road for the first time in the 2018 season on Wednesday night, and the Lions suffered a 5-0 loss to non-conference opponent Frostburg State University at Bobcat Stadium.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made a career-high 15 saves in goal for Penn State Altoona (0-4). That total ranks as the second-most saves in a single game in men's soccer program history, behind Tim Rankin's 16-save effort on September 3, 2011 in a game at Salisbury University.

Jordan Crist (Alum Bank, PA/Chestnut Ridge) took three of Penn State Altoona's five shots, including the team's lone shot on goal.

Frostburg (2-4) was led by Randy Putnam, who finished with two goals and one assist. Blake Geatz and Kaps Kapende each scored one goal and recorded one assist.

Frostburg used potent offense early in the game to build a 4-0 lead by halftime.

Kapende's goal, coming on an assist from Geatz, put the Bobcats up 1-0 at 6:38. Just over seven minutes later, Putnam set up Geatz, who found the back of the net at 13:41 to double the home team's lead.

The Bobcats struck twice in the span of 41 seconds to reach a four-goal lead. Putnam scored at 25:45 on an assist from Kapende, and Andre Lakanu netted an unassisted goal at 26:26 to make it 4-0.

Putnam scored Frostburg's only second half goal at 56:59.

Next up for the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team is an exhibition game against non-NCAA opponent Penn State Brandywine. The Lions host Brandywine at home this Saturday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m.

After that, the men's soccer team will return to regular action next Thursday, September 20 when they welcome non-conference foe Saint Vincent College to Spring Run Stadium for a 6:00 p.m. game.
