Titans Overpower Lions

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer embarked on its first road contest of 2019 on Wednesday evening, when the Lions were bested 4-1 by Westminster College.

Penn State Altoona (0-3) netted its first goal of the season in the loss, as Jordan Francis (East Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame East Stroudsburg) scored his first collegiate goal on a penalty kick. Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made two saves between the pipes.

Westminster (1-1) was powered by goals from four different scorers, as Nick Iregui, Tyler Caterino, Nick Cimini, and Ahmed Cisse each recorded tallies on the scoresheet.

The Titans wasted little time getting on the board, as Iregui dribbled through the Lions' defense to score the game's first goal just one minute into the first period. Westminster doubled its lead just under eight minutes later, as Caterino took a setup from Cisse and scored at 8:41 to make it 2-0.

Westminster increased its advantage to 3-0 early in the second half, when Caterino's cross in the box found Cimini, who put a shot past the keeper at 54:10.

A card in the box on Westminster at 69:05 resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for Francis, who cashed in to narrow the home team's lead to 3-1.

But Penn State Altoona was unable to generate any more goals. Westminster added a fourth goal at 89:54, when Cisse scored on a shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

The Titans posted a 15-6 advantage over Penn State Altoona in shots and also led 6-2 in shots on goal. Westminster also posted a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Jon Kadoch (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) and Connor Kiley (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) each attempted two shots for the Lions, while Jack Price (Unionville, PA/Unionville) and Francis attempted one shot each. Kadoch and Francis had Penn State Altoona's two shots on goal.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer returns home this Friday, September 6, when the Lions will host King's College for a 6:30 p.m. game at Spring Run Stadium.
