Bearcats Stifle Lions 1-0
LATROBE, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer was handed a 1-0 loss on Wednesday afternoon by Saint Vincent College at UPMC Field.
Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) made a season-high 12 saves between the pipes for Penn State Altoona (2-6). His save total is also tied for the third-most saves in a game in team history.
St. Vincent (1-6) got the game's lone goal from Roberto Fulweiler within the first four minutes of the contest. Cris White sent a cross to Fulweiler, who headed a shot past the keeper from 10 yards out to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead at 3:38.
That score held up the rest of the way, with the home team hanging on to win by one.
St. Vincent finished the day with a 15-9 advantage over Penn State Altoona in shots attempted, including a 13-5 lead in shots on goal. The Lions posted a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Brad Heacock (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) had a team-high two shots on goal, while Jordan Francis (East Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame East Stroudsburg) finished with a team-best three shot attempts.
Penn State Altoona men's soccer returns home for its next game – the team's first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup of the season – this Saturday, September 21 against D'Youville College at 2:00 p.m.
