Lions Soccer Stifled 1-0 at La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer lost a key Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference game on Wednesday afternoon, when the Lions fell 1-0 to La Roche University at the Baierl Athletic Complex.

Hoping to find a way to secure a spot in the upcoming AMCC Tournament, the Lions (5-12-1, 3-6 AMCC) were unable to generate any offense against the Redhawks. Jordan Francis (East Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame East Stroudsburg) had each of Penn State Altoona's two shots on goal.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) recorded three stops between the pipes for the Lions.

La Roche (5-11, 3-5 AMCC) scored the game's only goal in the early part of the first half, then made its lead stand up the rest of the way. Firas Abduljawad dribbled through the Lions' defense in the box, then slipped a shot inside the right post to put the home team up 1-0 at 16:51.

By the game's end, La Roche led 16-9 in shots attempted, 4-2 in shots on goal, and 5-3 in corner kicks.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer will close its regular season schedule on the road this Saturday, October 26, when the team will travel to Hamburg, N.Y. to take on Hilbert College at 1:00 p.m. The Lions will need to win against Hilbert, then hope for some help in order to slide into the sixth and final seed in the AMCC postseason tourney.
