Late Goal Pushes Men’s Soccer Past Pitt-Greensburg

ALTOONA, Pa. – Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) scored in the 77th minute of Wednesday night's non-conference contest against Pitt-Greensburg, helping the Lions achieve a 1-0 victory at Spring Run Stadium.

Corr's ninth goal of the year broke a scoreless tie at the 76:30 mark. Corr took a pass from Abdul Sattar (Mount Olive, NJ/Mount Olive) in the middle of the field and dribbled several yards into the box, where he ripped a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal from 15 yards to give Penn State Altoona (8-3) the only goal it would need for the win.

Tommy Packevicz (Trumbull, CT/Christian Heritage) made two saves to record his eighth win and third shutout of the season.

Penn State Altoona outshot Pitt-Greensburg (4-7-1) by an 8-3 margin in the first half, but the Lions came up emptyhanded, as the teams played to a scoreless deadlock by halftime.

The offensive chances picked up for both teams during the second half, including a bending shot off of a free kick by Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) that hit the left goal post at 64:19, preserving the scoreless tie.

But Corr's goal in the 77th minute put Penn State Altoona into the lead, and the Lions rode out the clock to notch their eighth win of the season.

Penn State Altoona ended the night leading Pitt-Greensburg in shot attempts (14-8), shots on goal (4-2), and corner kicks (3-2).

Ballard led all players in the game with seven shot attempts and three shots on goal, while Corr took three shots with one on goal.
