Men’s Soccer Blanked by Behrend

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer took its second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions fell 3-0 to conference opponent Penn State Behrend at Spring Run Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, Penn State Behrend (8-3, 4-0 AMCC) posted a dominant performance in the second half that saw the team put three goals on the board while outshooting Penn State Altoona (8-4, 2-2 AMCC) 16-0 in the period.

Behrend put the game's first goal on the board just 1:46 into the second half, when Brenden Akut's corner was headed into the right side of the goal by Peter Mooney Jr. The visitors struck again less than five minutes later, as Cameron Eckberg's pass into the box found Tyler Vandemerwe, who snuck a shot just inside the right post at the 51:29 mark to make it 2-0.

Behrend tacked on an insurance goal at 76:06. Nick Laskey sent a ball across the field into the left side of the box, where it found Michael Cammarata. Cammarata hooked a shot just inside the right goal post to increase the visitors' lead to 3-0.

Tommy Packevicz (Trumbull, CT/Christian Heritage) started in goal for Penn State Altoona and made four saves. Alexander Ferry (Warren, PA/Warren) took over as the keeper for the final 43 seconds of the game.

Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) had two of the Lions' three shot attempts, as well as his team's lone shot on goal. Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) had one shot attempt.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer returns to action for its final home game of the regular season this upcoming Tuesday, October 12, when the Lions will host AMCC foe La Roche University in a game starting at 8:15 p.m.
