Men’s Soccer Stumbles at St. Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. – After winning its previous two games in a row, the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team was tripped up on Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Field, where the Lions suffered a 3-1 loss to non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College.

St. Vincent (2-3) scored one goal in the first half, then tacked two more on to its total in the second half to secure a 3-0 lead. Penn State Altoona (2-2) scored late to get on the board.

Alexander Ferry (Warren, PA/Warren) made his return between the pipes for Penn State Altoona to record six saves in the loss.

St. Vincent made it 1-0 midway through the first half, when Joel Quiroz Mansilla found the back of the net for an unassisted goal at 20:13. The Bearcats doubled their lead early in the second half on an unassisted goal from Erwin Suarez at the 52:55 mark.

The home team upped its advantage to 3-0 at 69:15, as Sean Knipp scored off of Mansilla's corner kick.

Penn State Altoona found the scoreboard at 82:29 on a St. Vincent own goal.

Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) attempted a team-high three shots for the Lions, and Ethan Firth (York, PA/Central York) put one shot on goal.

Penn State Altoona returns home for its next game, as the Lions will host non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College this Saturday, September 17 at 3:30 p.m.
