by McKenzie Quirin

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team notched its third straight win on Tuesday night, when the Lions defeated Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche University 1-0 at Spring Run Stadium.

Vincent Reyes (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) scored his second goal of the season, as he netted the Lions' lone goal of the game late in the first half. The goal from Reyes was assisted by Luke Hall (State College, PA/State College), his first assist for the Lions as a second-year student-athlete.

Goalkeeper Sasha Mohoruk (State College, PA/State College) registered a spotless stat line for the Lions, as the Redhawks could not get a shot on goal. The shutout is Mohoruk's second of the season.

Penn State Altoona (3-1-1, 2-0 AMCC) showcased strength and resilience from the start, as they made a few shots toward the goal early in the first half. Both teams had scoring chances, but the Lions' lead did not come until Reyes found the back of the net at 43:50. Hall centered a pass from the left side of the box, and Reyes beat the La Roche keeper to his left on a shot from 12 yards to put Penn State Altoona on the board.

La Roche (1-8-0, 0-2 AMCC) saw some good chances offensively as they started the second half, but the Lions' defense kept the lead, 1-0. Penn State Altoona blanked the visitors for the rest of the contest, and the Lions held on for their second AMCC win of the fall.

The Lions led the Redhawks in shots, 20-10, with nine players contributing to their shot total. The nine contributors for the Penn State Altoona team included Hall with five shots; Owen Myers (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) with three shots; Ethan Firth (York, PA/Central York) with three shots; Daniel Persiko (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) with three shots; Luca Galieti (Broomall, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) with two shots; Ethan McDowell (Johnstown, PA/Johnstown Christian School), Bailey Musselman (Altoona, PA/Altoona), Awad Eltayeb (Khartoum, Sudan/Altoona) and Reyes all with one shot apiece.

Coming up, Penn State Altoona men's soccer ends the month of September on the road against AMCC opponent Alfred State on Saturday, September 30 at 4:15 p.m.
