Men’s Soccer Edged 1-0 by Pioneers

ALFRED, N.Y. – A penalty kick goal just over two minutes into Saturday's game at Pioneer Stadium proved to be the lone score of the contest, as Alfred State College defeated the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team 1-0 in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tilt.

Alfred State's (9-2, 2-1 AMCC) Garrett Potts scored on a penalty kick at the 2:12 mark to give the home team a 1-0 lead. That tally stood up the rest of the way, as the Pioneers earned the tight, one-goal win.

Sasha Mohoruk (State College, PA/State College) started in goal for Penn State Altoona (3-2-1, 2-1 AMCC) and made five saves while playing 62:37. Eli Slamka (Muncy, PA/Muncy) made his first collegiate appearance in relief, playing the final 27:23 and recording one save.

The two teams combined for just 17 shot attempts, with Alfred State holding a slight 9-8 edge by the game's end. The Pioneers also led 7-6 in shots on goal and 7-4 in corner kicks.

Luke Hall (State College, PA/State College) had two shots on goal in two attempts, and Ethan Firth (York, PA/Central York) also attempted two shots. Henry Couchara (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh), Awad Eltayeb (Khartoum, Sudan/Altoona), Connor McBride (Philadelphia, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh), and Jeff Stritzl (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) had one shot on goal apiece.

Penn State Altoona continues its AMCC slate of games on the road this Wednesday, October 4, heading to Westmoreland County to face conference foe Pitt-Greensburg at 4 p.m.
