Men’s Soccer Snaps Skid Versus Behrend in 1-0 Win

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team posted a win over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend for the first time in 11 years, as the Lions earned a 1-0 victory in Saturday's conference matchup.

Luke Hall (State College, PA/State College) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season for Penn State Altoona (5-3-1, 4-2 AMCC) in the 63rd minute, while Sasha Mohoruk (State College, PA/State College) made seven saves between the pipes for the Lions and notched his fourth shutout of the fall.

The win was Penn State Altoona's first men's soccer victory over Behrend since October 20, 2012, when the Lions pulled off a 2-1, double-overtime win in Erie.

Penn State Altoona weathered the storm during a first half in which Behrend had an 8-0 advantage in shots, including three shots on goal. By the period's end, the game remained scoreless.

Behrend again had a lopsided advantage in shots during the second half, when the home team pulled the trigger on 12 more, putting four on goal.

But Penn State Altoona finally broke through for the game's first goal midway through the second half. Mohoruk sent a kick deep into Behrend territory, where it was headed backward by a defender toward the right side of the box. Hall beat the Behrend goalkeeper in a footrace to the ball, chipping it past the keeper and ultimately into the open goal at 62:02.

Mohoruk and the Lions made their one-goal lead stand up the rest of the way, and Penn State Altoona escaped with an important AMCC road win.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer returns to the pitch this Monday, October 16 for a home game against non-conference opponent Waynesburg University. That game, which is the makeup of a previously-postponed game from September, is slated to start at 6 p.m.
