Lions Earn Fifth Shutout of the Season in Win at Carlow

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – For the fifth time this season, the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team picked up a shutout, winning 2-0 against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Carlow University on Wednesday night at Highmark Stadium in the Lions' last away game of the regular season.

Bailey Musselman (Altoona, PA/Altoona) and Luke Hall (State College, PA/State College) both contributed one goal apiece for Penn State Altoona (6-4-1, 5-2 AMCC) in their victory. Hall recorded an assist on Musselman's goal, while Alieu Baba Jarjusey (Cotonou, Benin/English International School) assisted on Hall's goal for his first collegiate point.

Sasha Mohoruk (State College, PA/State College) earned his fifth shutout of the season for the Lions in his 11th start. He recorded four saves on four shots on net to pick up his sixth victory of the year.

Carlow (2-11-1, 1-6 AMCC) and the Lions started the first half slow, as both teams battled to score the first goal. For the Lions, that first goal came at the 22:25 mark by Musselman, which put them on top 1-0. The Celtics continued to push offensively after Musselman's goal, but the Lions held their lead going into halftime.

Through the second half, the Celtics and Lions stayed strong defensively, as neither team was able to score until the final minute.

Closing out the game, Hall iced the win for the Lions when he found the back of the net at the 89:25 mark, with exactly 35 seconds left on the clock.

Penn State Altoona challenged Carlow with a 22-9 advantage in shots and a 7-0 lead in corner kicks.

Securing the Lions victory, Hall contributed a goal from six shots, three of which went on goal; Musselman with a goal from four shots, three of which went on goal, as well; Ethan Firth (York, PA/Central York) with three shots; Connor McBride (Philadelphia, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) with two shots, two going on goal; Luca Galieti (Broomall, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) with two shots; and Frank Kasperowicz (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick), Jeff Stritzl (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge), Henry Couchara (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh), Daniel Persiko (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) and Owen Myers (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) all contributing one shot a piece. Couchara and Kasperowicz's shots went on goal against Kevin Garcia, the Celtics goalkeeper.

Next up, the Penn State Altoona men's soccer team returns home to host AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford at Spring Run Stadium on Saturday, October 21, at 4:15 p.m.
