Men’s Soccer Gets First AMCC Road Win at Bradford
BRADFORD, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's soccer team notched its second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the fall on Saturday afternoon, when a pair of second-half goals helped push the Lions past Pitt-Bradford 2-0 at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
After a scoreless opening period, Penn State Altoona (3-9, 2-5 AMCC) got goals from Andrew Ream (Julian, PA/Bald Eagle) and Matias Harte (State College, PA/State College) to secure its first conference road win of the season.
Sasha Mohoruk (State College, PA/State College) recorded his third win and second shutout of the season at goalkeeper for Penn State Altoona, making seven saves in his 12th start of the year.
Penn State Altoona outshot Pitt-Bradford (3-12-1, 2-5-1 AMCC) by an 11-5 advantage during the first half, including putting seven shots on goal. But the Lions came up emptyhanded, settling for a scoreless tie by the intermission.
Penn State Altoona finally broke through at the 50:59 mark, when Ream scored his second goal of the season to give his team a 1-0 advantage. The Lions added an insurance goal at 85:05, when Harte netted his second tally of the fall on an assist from Aaron Lamy-Ramsden (Trinidad and Tobago/St. Benedict's College) to increase the lead to 2-0.
Pitt-Bradford outshot the Lions 12-7 during the second half, but Mohoruk and Penn State Altoona's defensive effort kept the Panthers off the scoreboard.
The Lions finished the game with a slight 18-17 advantage over Pitt-Bradford in shots attempted, including leading 11-7 in shots on goal. Corner kicks were tied 6-6.
Lamy-Ramsden and Harte tied for the game high in shots on goal with three apiece, with Harte attempting a game-best five shots and Lamy-Ramsden pulling the trigger on four. Giovanny Furbino (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) had two shots on goal.
Next up, Penn State Altoona men's soccer will close its regular-season schedule on the road, as the Lions make the short trek to Cresson, Pa., to play nearby AMCC rival Mount Aloysius College on Tuesday, October 29, at 7 p.m.
