Men’s Swimming in Fifth After First Day of AMCC Championships

ERIE, Pa. – The 2018 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships got underway on Wednesday night, and the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team found itself in fifth place by the conclusion of day one.

The four-day AMCC Championships, hosted by Penn State Behrend at its Junker Center, began with the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay finals on Wednesday evening.

In the 'A' final for the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, Penn State Altoona's team of Gino Cercone (Allison Park, PA/Shaler), Caleb Marasco (Altoona, PA/Altoona), Greg Landis (York, PA/West York), and Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) came together for a combined time of 8:09.66 to come in fifth place.

The Lions' finish in that event gave the team 20 points, ranking them in fifth place in the men's standings.

Alfred State College finished the night in first place with 69 points, while Penn State Behrend was second with 59 points. Cabrini College came in third with 34 points, and Pitt-Bradford was fourth with 26 points.

Day two of the AMCC Championships gets underway tomorrow, Thursday, February 15, and will include the 500 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard I.M., and 50 Yard Freestyle. The action gets started with the preliminaries at 10:00 a.m., with the finals occurring at 6:00 p.m.
