Men’s Swimming Remains in Fifth After Second Day of AMCCs

ERIE, Pa. - After day two of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships on Thursday, hosted by Penn State Behrend at the Junker Center, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team continued to hold down fifth place in the standings.

Penn State Behrend charged out to a commanding lead in first place with 285 points, Cabrini College was second by the end of Thursday's action with 152 points, and Pitt-Bradford was third with 147 points. Alfred State College placed fourth by the end of the day with 110 points, and Penn State Altoona totaled 65 points for fifth place.

After Thursday morning's preliminaries, the Lions opened the finals session in the evening by coming in fifth place in the 'A' cut final of the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. In that event, the team of Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley), Ben McConnell (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle), Caleb Marasco (Altoona, PA/Altoona), and Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) combined for a time of 1:34.62.

Penn State Altoona had two swimmers in the 'B' final for the 500 Yard Freestyle. Lesnett placed third in the 'B' cut and ninth overall in that swim, finishing in 5:17.63, while Gino Cercone (Allison Park, PA/Shaler) was sixth in the 'B' final and 12th place overall with a time of 5:39.20.

The Lions wrapped up the evening by placing fifth in the 'A' final of the 400 Yard Medley Relay, as the squad of Dominic Woods (Pittsburgh, PA/Brentwood), Greg Landis (York, PA/West York), Yaw, and Lesnett recorded a total time of 3:59.87.

Day three of the four-day AMCC Championships takes place tomorrow, Friday, February 16. The preliminaries get underway at 10:00 a.m., and the finals will follow at 6:00 p.m.
