Men’s Swimming Places Fifth at AMCC Championships

ERIE, Pa. – By the end of the fourth and final day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships on Saturday at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team established a fifth place finish in the standings.

Host school Penn State Behrend won the AMCC title with 744 points, holding a commanding lead over second place Pitt-Bradford and its total of 404 points. Cabrini College was third with 395 points, Alfred State College was fourth with 358 points, and Penn State Altoona rounded out the field of five teams with 166 points.

In the 'B' final of the 200 Yard Backstroke, Dominic Woods (Pittsburgh, PA/Brentwood) came in second place in the 'B' group and eighth overall with a time of 2:30.81.

Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) competed in the 'B' final of the 100 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 50.53 to place 12th overall, including sixth in the 'B' group.

The Lions had a pair of swimmers in the 200 Yard Breaststroke 'B' final, as Greg Landis (York, PA/West York) finished with a time of 2:25.47 to place second in the 'B' group and eighth overall and Tom Weir (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield) clocked in at 2:29.26 to finish third in the 'B' swim and ninth overall.

Penn State Altoona's Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) and Gino Cercone (Allison Park, PA/Shaler) both swam the 'B' cut final of the 200 Yard Butterfly. Yaw was second in the 'B' final and eighth overall with a time of 2:15.90, and Cercone finished third in the 'B' group and ninth overall with a time of 2:16.62.

The Lions had their best showing of the night in the last event of the championships, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. In that event, Lesnett, Cercone, Caleb Marasco (Altoona, PA/Altoona), and Yaw came together to place fifth in the 'A' cut final with a time of 3:29.28.
