Men’s Swimming Edged by Juniata

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's swimming returned to action on Friday evening for its final home meet of the season, and the Lions were defeated 99-80 by non-conference opponent Juniata College in the Adler Natatorium.

Penn State Altoona recorded a season-high four first place finishes in the loss.

Greg Landis (York, PA/West York) picked up two first places individually to lead the way for the Lions. In the 100 Yard IM, he came in first place with a time of 1:03.14. Later, he won the 100 Yard Breaststroke when he clocked in at 1:08.65.

Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) earned a first place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle, touching the pad at 52.70 to win the event.

Penn State Altoona won the night's final event, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, in a photo finish. The team of Cooper Gilkey (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria), Lesnett, Landis, and Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) posted a combined time of 3:38.97 to edge out their opponents for first place.

The Lions also picked up a handful of second places.

Yaw recorded a pair of runner-up finishes. In the 50 Yard Freestyle, he clocked in at 23.64 to come in second place. He also took second in the 100 Yard Butterfly when he finished in 56.64.

Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) placed second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 12:42.47. Lesnett was second in the 200 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 1:56.94. Gilkey was the runner-up in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:06.51.

The Lions also grabbed a second place in the meet's first event, the 200 Yard Medley Relay. In that event, Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville), Matt Beam (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), Stauss, and Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) came together for a time of 2:02.63.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, November 10, when it travels to compete against non-conference opponent Salisbury University in a dual meet starting at 1:00 p.m.
