Men’s Swimming Downed by Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team suffered a 132-56 loss to non-conference opponent Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon at the Maggs Center Swimming Pool.

The Lions recorded two first place finishes during the dual meet, both coming in individual swims.

Cooper Gilkey (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) won the 200 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 2:41.47. Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) won the next men's event, placing first in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle by finishing in 4:58.72.

Penn State Altoona also had four second place finishes.

The Lions started the men's meet off with a second place in the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay, as the team of Gilkey, Greg Landis (York, PA/West York), Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra), and Lesnett combined for a time of 2:03.93.

Yaw took runner-up status in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly, clocking in at 2:34.19 to come in second. Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) finished second in the 200 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 2:47.64. Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) took second in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle, finishing in 5:18.21.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming continues its schedule next Saturday, November 17, when it will hit the road to face Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Alfred State College in a dual meet beginning at 1:00 p.m.
