Men’s Swimming Tops Bethany 93-85 for First Dual Meet Win

BETHANY, W.Va. – Penn State Altoona men's swimming recorded its first dual meet victory of the 2018-19 season on Saturday afternoon, when the Lions defeated non-conference opponent Bethany College 93-85 at the John J. Knight Natatorium.

The Lions tallied five first place finishes in the meet, the team's first competition since December 1.

Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) got things started in the right direction for Penn State Altoona when he took first place in the 1650 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 19:56.71. The Lions' next first place came courtesy of Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra), who won the 400 Yard IM with a time of 4:51.44.

Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) took first in the 500 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 5.46.88. In the next event, Greg Landis (York, PA/West York) prevailed with a time of 1:10.00.

Penn State Altoona clinched the dual meet win in the day's final event, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. In that event, the team of Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), Lesnett, Landis, and Yaw combined for a time of 1:40.84 to take first place.

Next up for the Lions is another non-conference dual meet on the road, as the team will travel to face Wells College on Tuesday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m.
