Swimming Teams Set for AMCC Championships

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's and women's swimming teams are ready to compete in the 2018-19 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships this week.

The four-day event will again be hosted by Penn State Behrend at its Junker Center Pool. Competition opens on Wednesday, February 13 and continues through Saturday, February 16, with the overall point-winners being crowned as AMCC champions Saturday evening.

Penn State Altoona's involvement begins Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. with the first events of the championships, the men's and women's 800 Yard Freestyle Relays. The next three days, preliminary heats will be held at 10:00 a.m. with the finals in those events occurring each evening at 6:00 p.m.

In the regular season, the men's swimming team compiled a dual meet record of 3-5, including wins over non-conference opponents Bethany College, Wells College, and Gallaudet University. The Lions also posted a first place finish in the SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational, recording 344 points to place ahead of three other teams – including AMCC opponent SUNY Delhi. Penn State Altoona's men's squad produced two AMCC Swimmers of the Week, as sophomore Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) earned the recognition on December 3 and junior Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) took the honor on January 21.

The women's swimming team went 2-7 in dual meets during the regular season, posting wins over AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford and non-conference foe Bethany. Sophomore Hannah Kimmick (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield) picked up AMCC Swimmer of the Week honors on January 21.
