Lions Swimming Sinks Juniata 96-50

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's swimming recorded its fourth straight win to open the 2019-20 season on Friday night, when the Lions defeated non-conference opponent Juniata College 96-50 at the Binder Natatorium.

The Lions totaled eight first place finishes as a team during Friday's meet.

Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) had a team-high two individual first place finishes for the Lions. Swanson won the 200 SC Meter IM with a time of 2:19.37, and he later took first in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle by clocking in at 4:23.03.

In the first event of the men's meet, Penn State Altoona won the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay when the squad of Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville), HaoYing Hsieh (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny), Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), and Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) recorded a total time of 2:10.64.

Kieran McKee (York, PA/West York) later took first in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle, clocking in at 2:08.76. Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) earned a first place finish in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly, recording a time of 1:05.23.

Taylor Bohn (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) won the 100 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 1:08.97. In the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke, Hsieh earned a win with a time of 1:19.21.

Penn State Altoona wrapped up its evening by placing first in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle Relay, as Swanson, Greg Landis (York, PA/West York), Begany, and McKee combined for a time of 1:48.77 to finish atop the standings.

Lions swimming has now started its season with a victory in each event, as the team took first place in the season-opening Pitt-Bradford Relays before winning dual meets against Pitt-Bradford, SUNY Delhi, and now Juniata.

Next up for the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team, the Lions will host their home opener on Saturday, November 16 against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Alfred State College in the Adler Natatorium at 1:00 p.m.
