Swanson Sets Record in Lions’ 136-112 Loss to Alfred State

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team hosted its home opener on Saturday afternoon in the Adler Natatorium, and the Lions suffered a 136-112 loss to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Alfred State College.

Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) highlighted the Lions' day with a team record-setting time in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Swanson placed second in that swim with a time of 54.60, breaking the previous Penn State Altoona men's swimming record of 55.24 in the 100 Yard Backstroke. The previous record was held by former Lion Allen Shmurak, and it was set on February 10, 2017 during the AMCC Championships.

As a team, Penn State Altoona totaled five first place finishes in Saturday's meet.

Swanson was responsible for two of the first places himself. He picked up the Lions' first win of the day in the 200 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 1:48.11 to finish atop the standings. Later, Swanson came in first place in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:02.73.

Kieran McKee (York, PA/West York) earned a first place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 50.63 to win the swim. Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) nabbed a first place in the 50 Yard Butterfly, recording a time of 24.83.

The Lions capped the meet by taking first in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which the foursome of Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), Taylor Bohn (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville), Yaw, and McKee combined for a time of 1:33.83 to win.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's swimming hits the road to compete in the three-day Erie Community College Invitational, which runs from Friday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24.
