Men’s Swimming Starts Oberlin Invitational in 10th Place

OBERLIN, Ohio – Penn State Altoona men's swimming opened its weekend in the Oberlin College Invitational on Friday evening at Carr Pool, holding down 10th place out of 12 men's squads and totaling 80 points.

After the first of the three-day invitational, Penn State Behrend – an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent of Penn State Altoona – took first place on the men's side with 234 points. Allegheny College was in second with 187 points, and Ashland University was third with 171 points.

In the combined men's and women's standings, Penn State Altoona ranked 12th out of 13 total swimming programs taking part in this weekend's invitational. Penn State Altoona's women's team did not compete in Friday evening's slate of events, but will join in the action tomorrow for day two.

Penn State Altoona picked up 46 points in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a seventh place finish. In that event, the team of Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Aravind Gnanasekaran (King of Prussia, PA/Methacton), Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra), and Kieran McKee (York, PA/West York) combined for a time of 1:41.72.

The Lions' other points came in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, where the group of Swanson, Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), HaoYing Hsieh (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny), and Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) came together to record a time of 8:01.28 to earn 10th place.

Day two of the Oberlin Invitational is tomorrow, Saturday, November 23. The day opens with a slate of preliminaries beginning at 9:00 a.m., with a round of finals to follow at 6:00 p.m. that evening.
