Lions Win Season-High 10 Events in 130-10 Victory Over Wells

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team cruised to a 130-10 victory over non-conference opponent Wells College on Tuesday afternoon in the Adler Natatorium.

The Lions racked up a season-high 10 first place finishes, winning every event in the meet to secure their fifth dual meet victory of the season.

Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Kieran McKee (York, PA/West York), and Aravind Gnanasekaran (King of Prussia, PA/Methacton) each came away with two individual first places to lead the way for Penn State Altoona.

Swanson's day was headlined by another record-setting performance, this one coming in the 500 Yard Freestyle. In that swim, Swanson took first place with a time of 4:55.28, supplanting the previous record of 4:56.83 set by former Lion Scott Churner on February 17, 2010. The new mark represents Swanson's sixth different new record this season for the Penn State Altoona men's swimming program.

Swanson also won the 100 Yard IM, finishing in 58.64.

McKee took first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.72, and he also collected a win in the 100 Yard Butterfly, in which he earned a time of 56.82.

Gnanasekaran prevailed in the 100 Yard Freestyle by clocking in at 57.14, and he took first place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:09.72.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) picked up a first place finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:40.41. Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) won the 200 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 2:04.69. Taylor Bohn (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) secured a win in the 100 Yard Backstroke, hitting the pad at 58.98.

The Lions also won the only relay event of the men's meet, the 200 Yard Medley Relay. In that event, the squad of Swanson, HaoYing Hsieh (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny), McKee, and Stauss combined for a time of 1:48.35 to take first.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's swimming will host its final home meet of the season this Friday, January 17 at 6:00 p.m. against non-conference foe Gallaudet University. The meet will be the Lions' Senior Night, as the team will recognize its academic senior swimmers.
