Men’s Swimming Sends Off Seniors With Win Over Gallaudet

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's swimming defeated non-conference opponent Gallaudet University 151-91 on Friday night in the Adler Natatorium, during the Lions' last home meet of the season and the team's Senior Night.

Penn State Altoona recognized senior swimmers Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) and Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) in a pre-meet ceremony, and then the Lions proceeded to tie their season-high for first place finishes in a meet with 10. The win gave Penn State Altoona its sixth dual meet victory of the season, and it was also the team's third in a row.

Yaw led the Lions with three individual first place finishes in the meet, while Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) recorded two first places.

Yaw won his first event of the meet while swimming the 200 Yard Freestyle, in which he finished with a time of 2:05.09. Several events later, the senior prevailed in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.57, and he picked up his third win of the evening in the 100 Yard Butterfly, in which he posted a time of 56.79.

Swanson took first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 55.06, and he was also victorious in the 100 Yard Freestyle by clocking in at 49.98.

Stauss earned a first place finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, as he recorded a time of 11:50.87. HaoYing Hsieh (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny) won the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:33.82, and Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) triumphed in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:42.36.

The Lions also won both of the meet's relay events.

In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the team of Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), Aravind Gnanasekaran (King of Prussia, PA/Methacton), Hsieh, and Begany came together to post a time of 1:55.12 to take first place.

In the meet's last event, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the foursome of Swanson, Kieran McKee (York, PA/West York), Gnanasekaran, and Stauss combined for a time of 1:37.29 to finish atop the standings.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming will travel for its next competition, a dual meet at non-conference opponent Hood College on Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m.
