Men’s Swimming in Third After Opening Day of AMCC Championships

WEBSTER, N.Y. – By the end of day one of the four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Wednesday at the Webster Aquatic Center, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team held down third place.

The Lions compiled 74 points as a team in Wednesday's finals session to rank third in the AMCC standings. Penn State Behrend currently holds the top spot with 205 points, while Alfred State College is in second with 104 points. Pitt-Bradford is fourth with 36 points, and SUNY Delhi is fifth with 29 points.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) had the top individual finish on the day for the men's team while competing in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Yaw took sixth place in the consolation final and 14th place overall, posting a finals time of 22.34.

Penn State Altoona also had a strong showing in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, placing sixth out of 17 squads. The team of Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield), Aravind Gnanasekaran (King of Prussia, PA/Methacton), Yaw, and Kieran McKee (York, PA/West York) combined for a time of 1:38.93 in the event.

In the 'C' final of the 500 Yard Freestyle, Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) was sixth place and 22nd overall with a time of 5:20.48. Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) also competed in that swim, placing eighth in the 'C' final and 24th overall with a time of 5:31.93.

In the 200 Yard IM, HaoYing Hsieh (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny) swam in the 'C' final, during which he clocked in at 2:17.58 to place seventh in that session and 23rd overall.

Joining Yaw in the 50 Yard Freestyle were McKee, Taylor Bohn (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville), and Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), each of whom took part in the 'C' final for that swim. McKee took first in the 'C' final and 17th overall with a time of 22.64, and Bohn finished right behind him by clocking in at 22.68. Bauer was eighth in the 'C' final and 24th overall, hitting the pad at 23.98.

Begany, Bohn, Hsieh, and Bauer also competed together in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, placing 16th by recording a combined time of 1:49.85.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming returns to action tomorrow, Thursday, February 20 for the second day of the AMCC Championships. Preliminaries will start at 10:00 a.m., with the finals session scheduled for 5:30 p.m. that evening.
