Men’s Swimming Remains Third Through Three Days at Championships

WEBSTER, N.Y. – Three-quarters of the way through the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team continues to hold third place out of five teams.

The Lions entered Friday's action at the Webster Aquatic Center with 182 points as a team, and they added 85 more points on to their total during day three, finishing the night's finals session with 267 points to remain in third place. Penn State Altoona ranks ahead of SUNY Delhi (95 points) and Pitt-Bradford (93 points).

Penn State Behrend continues to sit in the top spot in the standings, totaling 538 points through three days. Alfred State College is second with 360 points.

Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) had another record-breaking performance for the Lions on Friday. In the 100 Yard Backstroke, he finished in 52.31 to place second in the AMCC and break his own team record of 53.87, which he set this past November 24.

Also in the 100 Yard Backstroke, Taylor Bohn (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) took fourth place in the AMCC with a time of 57.53, Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) was sixth by finishing in 1:00.72, and Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) took eighth with a time of 1:03.90. Bohn and Begany's times came during the consolation final for that event, while Bauer competed in the 'C' final.

In the 200 Yard Butterfly, Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) competed in the consolation final and finished in 2:09.84 to claim fourth place among the AMCC participants in that swim.

Aravind Gnanasekaran (King of Prussia, PA/Methacton) took part in the 'C' final of the 100 Yard Breaststroke, earning a time of 1:05.94 to place seventh in the AMCC. HaoYing Hsieh (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny) also swam in the 'C' final in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, coming in eighth place in the AMCC with a time of 1:08.95.

In the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, the team of Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), Bauer, Begany, and Hsieh combined for a time of 8:02.32 to place third in the AMCC.

Penn State Altoona men's swimming will look to finish the AMCC Championships on a strong note tomorrow, Saturday, February 22, for the fourth and final day of the event. Preliminaries start at 10:00 a.m., and the last finals session of the championships will be at 5:30 p.m. A full schedule of events can be viewed on the AMCC Championships webpage HERE.
